Y9. Obeying the Commandments & Teachings of Yeshua.    [Make a Comment]

We are to obey the commandments and teachings of Yeshua.

This precept is derived from His Word (blessed be He):

Key Scriptures

John 14:15
Come to me, all of you who are struggling and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

John 8:51
Yes, indeed! I tell you that whoever obeys my teaching will never see death.

Luke 6:46-49
Why do you call me, 'Lord! Lord!' but not do what I say? Everyone who comes to me, hears my words and acts on them - I will show you what he is like: he is like someone building a house who dug deep and laid the foundation on bedrock. When a flood came, the torrent beat against that house but couldn't shake it, because it was constructed well. And whoever hears my words but doesn't act on them is like someone who built his house on the ground without any foundation. As soon as the river struck it, it collapsed, and that house became a horrendous wreck!

Supportive Scriptures

Matthew 7:24-26
So, everyone who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a sensible man who built his house on bedrock. The rain fell, the rivers flooded, the winds blew and beat against that house, but it didn't collapse, because its foundation was on rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not act on them will be like a stupid man who built his house on sand.

Matthew 17:4-5
Kefa said to Yeshua, "It's good that we're here, Lord. I'll put up three shelters if you want - one for you, one for Moshe and one for Eliyahu." While he was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them; and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my Son, whom I love, with whom I am well pleased. Listen to him!"

John 14:21-24
"Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me, and the one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and reveal myself to him." Y'hudah (not the one from K'riot) said to him, "What has happened, Lord, that you are about to reveal yourself to us and not to the world?" Yeshua answered him, "If someone loves me, he will keep my word; and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. Someone who doesn't love me doesn't keep my words - and the word you are hearing is not my own but that of the Father who sent me."

John 15:10
If you keep my commands, you will stay in my love - just as I have kept my Father's commands and stay in his love.

It is held by some that the New Covenant is a covenant of grace (i.e. not of law), unlike the Mosaic Covenant which is a covenant of commandments (law). The Scriptures that underlie this Mitzvah show that Yeshua issued commandments as binding as those that were given through Moses - proof that the New Covenant is also a covenant of law. In my opinion, God's grace abounds in both covenants.

Classical Commentators

This Mitzvah is not addressed by any of the Jewish classical commentators.
