We have hope

"Your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands" Psalm 138:8

In our parasaha readings over this week and last this week, we find hope. The portions brings us the hope of salvation and the hope reconciliation. Joseph as a type of Messiah brings his brothers the hope of salvation. This is true even as he had already brought (and continued to bring) salvation to the people of Egypt. It took some time before Joseph revealed himself to his brothers because they had to be ready for it. (Genesis 44:30-34)

However, once he was revealed to be their brother, the sons of Israel went back to their father bringing hope with them. For Jacob, his spirit revived on the hope his sons brought back, along with the evidence for that hope. This hope protects us; this is the hope we have in our salvation. (1 Thessalonians 5:8) God’s timing required Jacob to spend a certain amount of time in hope before seeing what he was hoping for. This is true of us as well.

Jacob moved toward his hope after receiving it (Genesis 46). He continued to move toward his hope until he received the hope he was after. The question is whether we do the same.

As disciples of Yeshua, we are given a hope of Salvation and reconciliation. We are then required to move towards that hope. This is not because it is earned in any way. Rather, it is because as part of the evidence for our hope, we are given a new identity. This is our identity in Yeshua.

Therefore, as disciples of Yeshua, we must be consistent in moving toward the salvation that is ours in Yeshua. Others will see our hope and it will become theirs.
