To be written

"I myself have taken your kinsmen the L'vi'im from among the people of Isra'el; they have been given as a gift to ADONAI for you, so that you can perform the service in the tent of meeting." (Numbers 18:6, CJB)

This verse is from the last chapter of this week's Torah portion. In the previous two chapters we have read about the "Korah incident", when some of the Levites had complained about not being able to act as priests. The following day, the people were grumbling yet again and G-d had sent a plague.

Despite all that, G-d goes on to give instructions about the priestly service, who is to be involved and so on. G-d hasn't given up on the people! Don't you find this encouraging? Our people in the desert were repeatedly stiff necked and rebllious and yes, G-d got angry and their were sometimes dire consequences, but G-d still met with them and worked with them. We see this theme throughout the Bible and through the rest of history. It's amazing!

And yet, is it? Our B'rit Hadasha readings reminds us of His faithfulness. Whatever we do, G-d is still G-d and He remains faithful because "He cannot deny Himself". How can we see this working out today? This Shabbat, let's thank G-d for His fiathfulness and ask for guidance to become more faithful ourselves.

"If we are faithless, He remains faithful; for He cannot deny Himself. " (2 Timothy 2:13, NASB)
