More about the Tabernacle?

"Tell Aharon, 'When you set up the lamps, the seven lamps are to cast their light forward, in front of the menorah.'" (Numbers 8:2, CJB)

We have moved on from reading about the offerings ... to reading about the contents of the Tabernacle. Just when we thought we were back to the "interesting story" bits; oh well, we can switch off and wait for the narrative to continue, right?

Perhaps not! Even as observant Jews, it's easy to think a lot of this doesn't have relevance to our post-Yeshua and post-Temple every day lives. After all, does it really matter if the lamps cast their light forwards, backwards, downwards or upwards? Apparently G-d thought so, or He wouldn't have put it in the Bible.

What the relevance and meaning is for us today can sometimes takes study and thought (is that maybe the point? G-d wants us to actually stop and THINK?), but it is interesting that the "Temple of G-d" is mentioned in the very last book of the Bible as part of this week's readings. Revelation is definitely open to intepretation, but we can at least be sure that this means that the concept of the Temple, its contents and its rituals is still current.

"Then the Temple of God in heaven was opened, and the Ark of the Covenant was seen in his Temple; and there were flashes of lightning, voices, peals of thunder, an earthquake and violent hail." (Revelation 11:19, CJB)
