Sheets for the Tabernacle
|
"He made sheets of goat's hair to be used as a tent covering the tabernacle; he made eleven sheets." (Exodus 36:14) This is talking about the second layer of covering for the Tabernacle, which went on top of the finely woven linen and beneath tanned skins and an outer covering of fine leather. We don't know why there were four coverings, especially when the middle ones would only have been seen when the Levites dismantled and erected the Tabernacle on their journeys; but that's what the L-rd directed that is what they made. We all have times in our lives - whether at work, at home, in our relationships or directly from the L-rd - when we do things that appear to be a bit meaningless. We don't understand what it's for, it doesn't seem to be affecting anyone and feels like a waste of time. So how much effort do we put into these things? Do we cut corners so we can hurry on to the next thing? Or do we realise we have a commission to fulfill and, whatever the purpose of it is, the important thing is to do it the best of our abilities. "Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." (1 Corinthians 10:31, NASB)
