Question of the day: Why is John 17 one of my favorite chapters of the entire Bible? Answer: Okay, I agree, it does seem like I have a lot of favorites. But this one ranks right up there with Genesis 45 when Joesph reveals himself to his brothers and Esther 7 when Haman’s plot is foiled. John 17 is Yeshua's prayer from start to finish. He prayed these things at the end of the Last Supper Seder Meal, just before crossing the Kidron Valley and entering the Garden of Gethsemane. More to the point, it is Yeshua's prayer, not only for the disciples, but for us as well. John 17:20 "I pray not on behalf of these only, but also for those who believe in Me through their message". The very next thing in Yeshua's prayer is exactly why I love this so much. John 17:21 "... that they all may be one. Just as You, Father, are in Me and I am in You, so also may they be one in Us, so the world may believe that You sent Me ..." That call for unity among the body of believers is so precious. Let us honor Yeshua's prayer by modeling His call to love one another. 1 Peter 3:8-9 "Finally, all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, brotherly, tenderhearted, humble-minded. Do not repay evil for evil or insult for insult, but give a blessing instead - it is for this reason you were called, so that you might inherit a blessing."
