Adonai tests the heart

Question of the day: What does it mean when we read, "Adonai tests the heart"? (Proverbs 17:3b)

Answer: The Scripture refers to a refiner's fire. (Malachi 3:3, Psalm 12:6, and 1 Peter 1:7 just to mention a few.) The purpose of the refiner's fire is to burn away impurities. The test is actually more fire.

When the pure gold or silver is tested, the flame is applied and the refiner (the one applying the flame (heat), who is wearing very serious sunglasses) watches to see if the pure metal flames up. Any flame up reveals impurities. Can you see how this would apply to our hearts?

God is purifying a people who will stand in the day of battle, rally to His banner (His banner over me is love), and be steadfast (faithful). We are all in the Lord's army. This life we're living is basic training for the battle to come.

Psalm 26:2-3 "Probe me, Adonai, and test me, refine my mind and my heart. For Your love is before my eyes and I have walked in Your truth."

Psalm 139:23-24 "Search me, O God, and know my heart. Examine me, and know my anxious thoughts, and see if there be any offensive way within me, and lead me in the way everlasting."
