Within in the orbit of Judaism
|
In his article on the history of Messianic Judaism, David Rudolph says: When we speak of Messianic Judaism in antiquity and in the modern era, we are referring to religious tradition in which Jews have claimed to follow Yeshau (Jesus) as the Messiah of Israel while continuing to live within the orbit of Juidaism. Communities of such Jews existed in the first four centuries of the Common Era and then reappeared in the eighteenth century. Is this idea shocking to you, that the first Jewish believers continued living within the mainstream Jewish community? Or do you think that this in line with what we read in the Gospels? That this continued for four centuries is inspiring - but why did it not continue?
