Are Judaism and Christianity separate?
|
David Rudolph challenges the way that we think of Judaism and Christianity: Many today view Judaism and Christianity as separate and and distinct religions by God's design. However, Yoder argues that this was not God's intention. A more objective understanduing of the Jewish-Christian schism requires seting aside the "had to" and allowing for the psossibility that "it did not have to be." Historicasl development does not always reflect the will of God. (Introduction, page 13) Do you view them as distinct religions or part of a whole? How would your view have to change to consider the opposite approach? How much do we read back into Scripture through the lens of the Jewish-Christian schism? Conversely, how much does our interpretation of Scripture colour the way we see history since Bible times?
