Avoid alternative realities
|
Question of the day: The question of the day is one asked by Abimelech to Abraham after Abraham had identified Sarah as his sister. Genesis 20:10 "Abimelech also said to Abraham, “What motivated you to do this thing?" Answer: The Hebrew question is, "What did you SEE, that you have done this thing?" In modern Hebrew we would ask, "Ma Pitom?" It means, "What, suddenly?" The idiom is "What possessed you?" Fear had gripped Father Abraham (we don't usually think of Abraham in those terms). Abraham is 99 and afraid, while Sarah is 89 and so beautiful that Abraham is sure everyone would love to kill him to have her. This is one time I would have loved to be a fly on the wall of Abraham's tent. Abraham had created an alternative reality in his own mind. Many of us who are children of Father Abraham do the same thing. Let's purpose to walk in faith, believing the promises of God. Let's purpose to skip any detour into an alternative reality. Blessings. R. Michael.
