A blessed inheritance

As I write this, I can't get Psalm 34 out of my mind. What is the Lord saying?

Psalm 34:12-15 "Come, children, listen to me: I will teach you the fear of Adonai. Who is the one who delights in life, and loves to see good days? Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking treachery. Depart from evil and do good. Seek shalom and pursue it."

These words (in part) appear at the end of the Amidah (liturgical silent devotion). They also appear in 1 Peter 3:10. I could never figure out how the rabbis used a quote from 1 Peter in the most liturgical of Hebrew prayers. Then I discovered Peter borrowed it from the Psalms (which are very Jewish).

Here is one last promise from the Lord, also from Psalm 34.

Psalm 34:18-20 "The righteous cry out and Adonai hears, and delivers them from all their troubles. Adonai is close to the brokenhearted, and saves those crushed in spirit. Many are the distresses of the righteous, but Adonai delivers him out of them all."

This is a blessed inheritance. Have a holy day.
