Deuteronomy 12:8-9 "You will not do all the things as we are doing here today - everyone doing what is right in his own eyes. For you have not yet come to the resting place and the inheritance that Adonai your God is giving you." The standard for walking with God is not lower once we receive Messiah Yeshua, but higher. We do not do what is right in our own eyes. Crossing over Jordan is euphemistic for accepting Yeshua as your Lord and Savior. Then we come into the promised land, the resting place. Yeshua held His arms wide and spoke to each of our hearts ... Matthew 11:28 "Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." Obedience to God is a joy and not a burden. It is our inheritance to obey God with gladness. The servants who take their God-given talents and increase (through the power of God) receive this reply ... Matthew 25:23 "His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You were faithful with a little, so I'll put you in charge of much. Enter into your master's joy!'"
