Dance in the rain

1 Corinthians 14:20b "... be infants in evil, but in your thinking be mature."

While we are technically taking this verse out of context, there is this application that is relevant to the entire chapter. What does it mean, "Be infants in evil?" Babies have short memories. The evil spoken of is translated by some as malice. Malice is wishing to do others harm. God clearly reserves vengeance for Himself. (Leviticus 19:18, Deuteronomy 32:35, Romans 12:19). See also Matthew 10:16 and Philippians 2:15)

That leaves us with, "In your thinking be mature." It is only in adversity that our thinking can become mature. It is in the midst of trial that we discover true faith. May I borrow a thought from Longfellow (as if there is not enough good Scripture), who in his poem, The Rainy Day, reminds us no matter how bad the storm, the sun is still shining. Then he wrote this famous line, "Into each life some rain must fall."

God doesn't promise His followers an exemption from difficulties, He promises to be with us always (Psalm 23:4, Isaiah 43:2). In closing, I offer you this resource.
