Fruit of the Spirit - Long-suffering

Long-suffering - that is the fourth fruit of the spirit. In the Greek it means patience and forbearance as well. This is defined as "God-regulated patience" which God even ascribes as one of His own attributes (1 Peter 3:20 & 2 Peter 3:15). When the Lord produces any of His qualities in us, it is called a fruit of the spirit.

Through this fruit of the spirit, we demonstrate staying-power and steadfastness. Whatever the opposite of short-tempered is, that is the fruit of long-suffering.

When we have this quality, we will not have fits of rage, nor seek retribution. When God says "Vengeance is Mine" in Deuteronomy 32:35 (the Ha'azinu chapter) He is calling out our fruit of longsuffering.

In the past few days we have said, "No fruit before its time" and "Wait for it". This fruit, which demonstrates patience, has "delayed response" baked into it. May we respond to every situation with the character of Messiah.
