Psalm 130 - God has called us to wait on Him
|
Psalm 130:5-6 "I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in His word I do hope. My soul waits for the Lord, more than those who watch for the morning - yes, more than those who watch for the morning." NKJV Qiviti Adonai, "I wait for the Lord" is a phrase that appears in many places in Scripture. It is mentioned here almost as if it is quite usual and normal. This is actually one of the greatest attributes to be greatly desired by every follower of Yeshua. (Please refer to Psalm 27:14) The rest of the verse says my soul waits. Then the last phrase of verse 5 has an interesting literal meaning. "And to His Word I have waited expectantly." (Young's Literal Translation comes the closest.) It is not enough to wait, we must wait with expectation that His Word will come to us. Psalm 28:1 tells us that if we do not hear from God, we are just like any person who does not have faith. Verse 6 is almost a repetition of verse 5, but with some differences. Literally, "My soul is to or for the Lord." Verse 6 concludes with 2 words spoken twice (we know that is for emphasis). From morning watchmen, morning watchmen. Another way to understand this structure would be to translate it, "Especially morning watchmen." What is a morning watchman? A watchman who has stayed awake all night. Sunrise is such a special time. The day dawns; a new day. God's 24 hour gift. A fresh opportunity to give God glory. A new opportunity for excellence. The list of possibilities is endless. Let us purpose to make each day count for God. In verse 2 of this Psalm we asked God to hear our cry. Here in verse 6 we propose back to God that when He speaks, we will listen.
