Hanukkah, the Feast of Dedication, is not primarily about "mythical miracles" or military might. Whether these things happened or not we may never know. Hanukkah is about DEDICATION - dedication to the death. The book of Daniel described those freedom fighters called the Maccabees as those who "knew their God and displayed strength and took action". They stood against the progressives of their day and refused to assimilate into the surrounding godless culture. As a result many lost their lives. They believed in unchanging truth in a rapidly changing world and much of their resistance came not from foreign powers, but from their own brothers and sisters. The message of Hanukkah is always relevant because the world around us is a powerful system headed by Satan who seeks to sweep us into its mainstream and eradicate from our hearts even the smallest residue of devotion to our God and His commandments. In every generation God has His remnant of faithful ones. As the coming of Yeshua draws nearer many will fall away, but there will be a remnant in that day that will rise up and "display strength and take action". They will stay true to their King and Messiah not matter what the cost. They will be dedicated to the death if need be.
