Omer Devotional: Renewed in Vision
|
Take a moment to consider this classic verse on vision ... Proverbs 29:18: "Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he." KJV It is quoted here in the KJV as an accurate translation. The word translated "vision" in Hebrew is "Khazon". It is a prophetic vision. Without a sense of prophetic vision, people lose restraint. (The word for "losing restraint" is the word used to describe the people during the sin of the golden calf.) The second half of Proverbs 29:18 is also significant. There are 3 Hebrew words used, Shomair (keep), Torah (Law) and Ashre (happy). Protecting the Torah is counter-positioned with having a vision. The Hebrew conjunction between to the two half verses is not "but". In Hebrew it is written as "and". Vision is essential to our existence, AND defending the Torah is essential to our happiness.
