The Mosaic Revelation

It is significant that God's historic revelation is manifested through a program to rescue a dispossessed slave people. The consistent picture of God revealed in the events of the Exodus - as well as by the prophets - is a God who cares for the poor, the needy the dispossessed, the aged, the orphaned, and the widowed; that is, for all who are defenceless, God is their defender. Yeshua Himself announces His ministry in these terms, quoting Isaiah:

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath annointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised... (Luke 4:18, KJV).
