2022 Congregational Declaration

Last November, our Shomair leadership team (made up of about fifteen people who lead various ministries within the congregation) met for "listening prayer." This is something we have done for the last two years (making this our third annual time). We inquire of the Lord with one question on our minds. "What is Your heart, Lord, for Your people at Shomair Yisrael for the coming year?"

And we wait. As we sense, in the spirit, that the time of waiting is complete, we slowly call on everyone in the room to share what he/she has heard. As each person speaks, we take notes. For some, it is a vision. For others, it is a single word. Many report a scripture, while still others speak of a prophetic sense or leading.

These contributions are then organized by our elders into what becomes an amazingly coherent statement which is now our declaration for the next calendar year. It does seem to me that each time we go through this exercise our focus sharpens. And isn't that the way it should be? On Saturday, January 1, 2022, at the start of our worship service, we rose as one and spoke this declaration over ourselves for the first time. At the end of the reading, the congregation erupted in applause as a show of affirmation.

I am publishing it here without comment. There will be time for comment in the future. But there is a purpose in publishing it here, even though many of you are not members of Shomair Yisrael congregation. I want to challenge you to hold us accountable throughout the year to live up to this, our 2022 Congregational Declaration. Will you please do that for me? Thank you.

2022 Shomair Yisrael Congregational Declaration

Shomair Yisrael is a community of disciples called to reflect the love of Yeshua, as we follow Him. We believe the Lord has planted us to stand as mighty oaks of righteousness for His glory.

We place our confidence in Yeshua, in Whom we find wisdom, courage, and strength. Following the ancient paths, where the good way is, we find rest for our souls.

This will be a year of taking back the ground the enemy has stolen by worshiping the One Who is faithful and true. We stand steadfast and immovable, knowing that, in Yeshua, our Lord, our labor of love is not in vain.

We seek, knock, and ask, believing He will guide us into greater levels of trust and intimacy according to His call. As faithful and wise servants, we put our confidence in Him alone, remembering the lowly and the small whom He loves.

Therefore; let us draw near to the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace for help in time of need. In Yeshua's name. Amen.
