With much of the current emphasis on the immanence of God, seeing Yeshua as our "friend who sticks closer that a brother" (Proverbs 18:24) and experiencing the presence of God in the midst of His people in worship, it is possible to lose sight of the sheer scale or proportion of our God. Isaiah has some good words to help us get things in the right perspective: Isaiah 40:23-24 He brings potentates to naught, makes rulers of the earth as nothing. Hardly are they planted, hardly are they sown, hardly has their stem taken root in earth, when He blows upon them and they dry up, and the storm bears them off like straw. No matter the person or the country - whether the Queen of England, the President of the United States of America, the leader of Russia or China - they are as nothing compared to Him. It isn't that they are nothing, after all, they - just like us - are made in His image, but on a relative basis, they are as nothing when He fills the frame. Isaiah again: Isaiah 40:26 Lift up your eyes on high and see: who created these? He who brings out their host by number, calling them all by name, by the greatness of His might, and because He is strong in power not one is missing. Which our leaders - past, present or future - is or might be capable of placing even one star in the heavens? Ridiculous! All that to say that God is in control, absolute control. When man has done his worst - limited as he is by God - God will still be there; He cannot be cancelled or ignored. He will outlast every government or leader and will hold them to account for their use or abuse of the authority He has granted them.
