The importance of trees - Part Two

Time and time again the connection between agriculture plus dates and times in the bible are seen. There is a seven year cycle in Judaism which allows for the land to rest in the seventh year. In Deuteronomy 14:22-29 the tithing cycle for the six year period is laid out. How interesting to note that when God gave the command to care for the widow and orphan as well as to provide for the Levites, He also gave the framework for the nation as a whole to be able to carry out His instructions.

The tree bears it's fruit and so too is man called to bear fruit. Man's fruit is of the spirit and comes as he is rooted in God. He is the one who gives us the ability to stand and bear good fruit. Our roots spread out as we are In Him.

If there is something in our lives which does not bear good fruit, we should see to it that it is pruned so that new growth can occur. The pruning process is sometimes painful but will bring life and not death to the branch when done properly.

The tree must give its fruit but at the same time it gives more than that. It gives shade, life and sustenance to the many animals, insects and plant life around it. We live in order to bear fruit which can be given to those around us. Are we prepared to give even more than that? Can we live our lives in order to give?
