Our purpose

Have you ever asked yourself what the purpose of your life is and what it is that you have to gain? If we look at it from the flesh or worldly standpoint it's not too difficult to come up with some answers. What would the world say about the meaning of 1 Corinthians 9:24-27? Probably something like to be the best or first in sports, business or maybe even in service. If you were to tell someone in your office that you are striving for a prize which is an imperishable crown, what do you think they'd say? Then there's the question of what we need to do to get that crown while at the same time not becoming disqualified according to our own words and actions.

Maybe it's clear to many but not so to others. According to 2 Timothy 4:5-8; the race or purpose or point should be to do the will of God; that which He has chosen us to do. Enduring all that comes against us and continuing toward the fulfillment of our call or ministry while looking in the direction of the crown of righteousness which awaits us. How do we do this on a daily basis? What is our goal as an individual, family and even within our congregations and what do we need to do to get there?

We might begin by identifying some goals we'd like to reach by the end of the year and then within the next ten years for example. Now that we have a direction we can move toward the goal. Faith gives us the ability to be released from the chains holding us back. Hebrews 11:1 Only by spending quality time with God will we know what, how and when to move toward those goals; to know the Will of God. Only when in relationship with Him will be have the faith to do anything.

Lets take the example of the Hebrews in the desert as told in Deuteronomy 2 as our example. What did the Lord tell them:

- stop circling,

- get up and go and

- I'll take care of the enemy.

When the day comes, may we all meet at the finish line.
