Then God said ...

Genesis Chapter 12 starts with the simple phrase "Then Adonai said to Abram ..."

We always focus on what God said, but THAT God spoke to Abram is amazing. We are Abraham's seed, so we also must live in a world where God speaks to us. Why must we hear from God?

The book by Simon Sinek is titled "It Starts With Why". (Look up this link)

So, rather than asking the usual "How" do we hear from God, I'm asking "Why" must we hear from God? King David wrote is Psalm 28:1 "unless I hear from You, Lord, I'm like those who go down into the pit." Hearing from God is a distinctive that separates us (God's people) from everyone else in the world.

Hearing from God is critical to walking with God. Can we agree on that? After all, what is Shema Yisrael but God's command to hear Him. The fact that He is One makes hearing Him possible because One God speaks only One message.

God says, "Walk this way." We can only go down one road at a time. His message is consistent, "Follow me."

Psalm 95:7b says "... today if you will hear His voice."
