Sovereign Protection

Psalm 115:9 "O Israel, trust in Adonai - He is their help and their shield!" NKJV

This verse is addressed to Israel. Today, Israel is both natural born Israel and grafted in Israel. There is a command to trust (count on the) Lord. (Proverbs 3:5,6)

Then, following the etnakhta there are 3 more words; Ezram (their helper) Maginam (their shield) and Hu (He is). You've got it; "He is their helper and their shield."

The concept of helper and shield encapsulates the two responsibilities of every sovereign. Every sovereign must both provide for and protect his/her subjects.

In our case, the Lord God Almighty has provided us opportunity to serve Him within certain specified boundaries enumerated in the Law of God. God has also committed to protect us. He is bound by His Word to protect what belongs to Him. We can be comforted that He is able. As long as we stay within His tent, He will both provide for and protect His people. (Ps 33:20)
