Psalm 28:9 "Save Your people, bless Your inheritance, shepherd them and carry them forever." (TLV) This one verse contains so many words that are critical to the "big picture" of our faith. In order, we find: Salvation, Bless, Inheritance, Lift Up, and Eternally Forever. These 5 concepts are all central to the message heard by every faithful follower of Yeshua. In English we say "hosanna", made of two Hebrew words, Hoshiyah Na meaning "save us now". In our verse, the called forth salvation is today a people called "Your people". Balancing this call for salvation (notice this is a concept rooted in the Hebrew Scriptures, though many would wrongly have us believe salvation is only a New Covenant concept). It is a call for God to bless. The object of His blessing is called "Your (God's) inheritance". This word in Hebrew, Nakhalah appears 223 times in the Old Testament! It speaks of a possession or one's property. In this case, God's possession, God's property. Yes, you belong to God. The verse concludes with Ad-HaOlam and this tells us how long we belong to God ... The translations do not do this justice. Let me conclude here with an amplified version: "Until we reach the edge of eternity in distant space." We think in terms of borders; a beginning and an end. God created the universe without borders. Without beginning and without end. Time is measured in space (how long does it take for the earth to go around the sun?). So, we will be saved so that we can belong to God forever and ever (as if forever weren’t long enough).
