Psalm 122 - God has called us to a citizenship in His holy city

Psalm 122:7-9 "'Peace be within your walls, prosperity within your palaces.' For the sake of my brethren and companions, I will now say, 'Peace be within you.' Because of the house of the Lord our God I will seek your good." NKJV

Verse 7 starts "There will be peace in Your ramparts" and concludes "Prosperity (tranquility) within Your palaces."

Verse 8 echoes "On account of My brothers and neighbors (friends), I will now say, 'Peace within her.'"

Then in verse 9 we read, "On account of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek your good."

Every time we study Scripture, it is appropriate to ask, "To whom is this verse directed?" Who is the desired recipient of the good in verse 9, or the peace of verse 8, or even the tranquility of verse 7? We always look to the Bible to answer our questions. There is a strong clue baked into the Hebrew. The objective "you" in all 3 of these verses is a feminine structure. (Hebrew is gender specific, with no neuter gender. Everything is masculine or feminine.) The object of our prayers for tranquility, peace and good is none other than the city of our God, Jerusalem.

To conclude the devotional today, please read Psalm 48.
