Leadership

The shepherd in Israel walks along in front of the flock, calling them to follow him. Yeshua said that "My sheep follow Me because they recognise My voice".

Leaders have a solemn charge and responsibility laid on them, to tend the flock that G-d has placed in their care and they have to answer to Him for how they have carried out that charge.

Rav Sha'ul urges us to "pray for your leaders and esteem them" because they are, like us, only human, yet are called to model Messiah for us and lead us.

Sometimes leaders have to rebuke and correct, when situations or individuals get out of hand; at other times, they nuture and support the sick - a leader is never off-duty because even when away on holiday he has the welfare of the congregation at the back of his mind.
