A History of Tikkun: Choosing a Name
|
Now "Tikkun to restore the world" - Tikkun ha Olam - is a major concept in Judaism meaning that the purpose of the Jewish people is to bring restoration to the whole world. I think Acts chapter 3 tells us that the world is not going to be restored until Yeshua comes back. It's not something we're going to bring about but we have a part in bringing that about, a part in hastening the day of his coming. That part (for us) is to see the Messianic Jewish world come into right unity with the church because we are a unity movement; we're committed to what Yeshua said, that they might be one that the world might believe. We believe that Yeshua's prayer will be fulfilled and "tikkun" in the sense that we're restoring God's order of government, the right relationship with Jew and Gentile, as a precursor to the return of Lord and the completion of both our witness to Israel for His coming and completion of world evangelism. So Tikkun became the name that we used to establish Eitan and Asher in Israel. It is very interesting because Asher and Eitan were zealous to not look like they were foreign plants in Israel being governed from the United States.
