Helping Our Neighbor Who Is in Need

We must be alert to when our neighbor is in need!

[Here lies] the greatest challenge, which is, "How far must we go to help, and at how great a cost?"

This is an interesting mitzvah which does not have an obvious boundary to its practical application - so how are we to know how far is enough and how far we should put ourselves out to help our neighbor?
