Choosing Community & Leadership

This month I am addressing the issue of leadership from the point of view of choice. Your choice! You, that is, all of us, choose who are leaders are to be. Not that we each get to be part of the process that selects a leader for each and every church and congregation, but that we all choose which congregation or church we will attend. The leadership of those churches or congregations is critical and should form a significant part of our choice process.

... the character qualifications for elders are central and more important than the gifts and talents of the leader.

This is more than just an individual senior leader issue - the whole of the leadership structure needs to be in proper biblical order. Many fail to recognise that

... a good experience in a weekly gathering is not a sufficient reason to join a congregation.

It matters how the whole community is built, what standards are being supported and promoted and how the community and leadership is accountable and related to other communities and fellowships in the local area and beyond.

There has already been some lively comment, so why not read the article for yourself and join in the conversation.
